Experienced entrepreneur looking for an ambitious developer to help get a new startup off the ground. The idea is to get v1.0 built as a side project and then see where we go from there. In other words, I don’t expect you to quit your day job, so this is the perfect chance for a talented young developer (or a more established developer branching out into a new language) to gain some high-quality practical experience without the risk of committing all-in to a startup.
This is a true ground-floor opportunity to develop a consumer web app. You will be building the product from scratch and will have significant input into architecture, design and layout in addition to performing all the development work yourself. If you are an accomplished web developer with both frontend and backend experience looking to expand your skills into Ruby/Rails or Groovy/Grails, this will be the ideal situation for you. If you happen to be a sports fan as well, you will love this gig.
This is an unfunded project, so there is no upfront cash salary or guaranteed fee provided, but generous backend earn-out compensation will be available depending on success. Equity may also be an option if you prefer. Should the project gain significant traction, there will also be an opportunity for fulltime employment after launch. (The finished product will of course also serve as an excellent example piece for your portfolio.) Total timeframe from start to finish depends on your outside commitments and comfort with the programming languages involved, but third party estimates suggest that this will be roughly a 2-3 month project if developed on a part-time basis.
Requirements:
• Solid experience and skill with HTML and CSS
• Solid experience with at least one server side web programming language (PHP, CFML, Python, Perl, C#, Ruby, Groovy, etc.)
• Knowledge of (but not necessarily commercial experience with) either Ruby/Rails or Groovy/Grails
• Local to NYC (need you to be available for meetings, but otherwise you can work wherever and whenever you like)
• Fluent English speaker
Nice-to-haves:
• Advanced knowledge and/or experience with Ruby/Rails or Groovy/Grails
• Design skills (and knowledge of Photoshop or Illustrator)
• Familiarity with/enthusiasm for sports
