Field Applications Engineer

Location: Emeryville, CA

Our client, located in the San Francisco Bay Area, backed by tier one investors and led by successful Nanotechnology MEMS (micro-electronic machines) experts is producing a new breed of exciting MEMS sensors.

This is an excellent opportunity to join an interesting Nanotechnology company on the ground floor. Our client, a fab-less micro-electronics company in the MEMS space is currently conducting a search for a talented Field Applications embedded software engineer . The company is located in a beautiful location in gorgeous Northern California.

The Applications Engineer (AE) role has three primary responsibilities within the company. First is to be one of the key technical interfaces to the customers during both the product development and product launch phases, and to work closely with the Design teams to resolve any issues. Second, to develop customer support materials, including applications notes, reference designs and training materials that accelerate the design in cycle for our customers. Third, to provide active input to the new product specification process and be able to take on the role of internal customer for our design teams. Travel averages to 25% approximately with more during critical cycles.

Actual daily deliverables:

Support of customer Application Software Development:
Conversant with our client's Applications Programming Interface (API) and the associated Keil development tools for the 8051 microcontroller.
Experience in developing applications code in C with a focus on embedded systems
The FAE will be responsible for the design and development of demonstration software as required to support both the sales process and/or to be used as educational tools, and be able to provide customer demonstrations. This will include an active role in customer documentation and user manuals.
To develop an in depth knowledge of the customer applications environments, and translate this in to a series of Application Notes and Demonstration Code that will be used to accelerate subsequent design cycles.
Drive regular technical support calls, manage open issue lists with key customers and prioritize key support actions with the internal design teams.
Given the global nature of the automotive electronics business and the location of our customers the AE will be required to travel extensively throughout the US, Europe and Asia.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

This is a customer facing position, so both verbal and written communications skills will be key.
Providing Customer Presentation and Demonstrations.
Developing Applications Code, Documentation and Writing Applications Notes
Providing debug support for customer application issues and communicating internally
Experience with 8051 microcontroller based designs
Experience at developing Embedded C applications
Experience at providing documentation and customer applications notes

Experience

Minimum 5 years engineering experience in relevant systems
Minimum two years experience in a customer facing role, or equivalent
Qualifications, Minimum BSEE or BSEET
