Front-End Web Engineer

Location: Berkeley, CA
Compensation: Salary + Stock

We're a group of (mostly) Berkeley engineers building a new consumer Internet service. Come join our team and help us create great user experiences through great software. We value good engineering, so if you're tired of hacked-together web projects and want to work in Berkeley let's talk.

Redux is a Discovery Network combining our own collaborative filter and custom back-end with an online media destination -- we let people discover videos, products, events, and other people (among other things) within a social environment -- basically our aim is to make the signal-to-noise ratio of the web much better and entertain people while doing it.

We expect the person interested in this job to have a natural familiarity and curiosity with the vagaries of web-based applications, including issues of memory management, debugging, the box model, and cross-browser compatibility. We also assume someone interested in working with us will have a firm grasp of software development practices such as version control (we use SVN), rapid iteration, code reuse, and how to enjoy working in a team. We work hard, but we also chose to work in a startup because corporate we ain't.

We're a BSD/Python/MySQL shop, so familiarity with some or all of those is a plus, but you must have comfort with Javascript/CSS/XHTML environments. Major bonus if you already know jQuery, but as long as you understand what it is and why you'd use it that's sufficient to get started.

The gory details:

Must demonstrate development skills across a wide range of technologies, including:

* HTML/XHTML, CSS
* JavaScript, AJAX
* W3C DOM methods and properties
* Adobe Photoshop

Responsibilities:

* Work toward weekly and bi-weekly deadlines
* Develop optimized/cross-platform front-end code using XHTML/CSS, JavaScript, and AJAX
* Collaborate with product management and backend engineers

Requirements:

* An excellent grasp of computer science fundamentals
* Expertise in using Unix, SVN (or other version control system)
* Experience launching/building successful interactive web sites and applications
* Excellent communication and collaboration skills
* Familiarity with JavaScript frameworks, such as jQuery, Dojo, and Prototype
