Software Engineer- Backend

As an engineer at HealthTap, you will:
• Define and build products and applications that help people live healthier, happier lives
• Be responsible for developing best-in-class software in a fast-paced, agile, startup environment
• Work closely with product management, marketing, and company leaders to successfully move from early stage product concepts through successful launch

• Very talented programmer with a broad range of technical skills and the ability and desire to tackle highly challenging technical projects and to deliver independently

Qualifications and Experience
• Experience building applications using Ruby or Java based web technologies
• BS or MS in computer science
• Comfortable with the entire technology stack of a web-based application
• Able to contribute to database design, backend algorithms, frontend implementation – some of the technologies we use are Ruby on Rails, MySQL, Objective-C, HTML5 and Lucene
• Highly proficient in source code control systems like svn or git, build management tools like Ant, Maven or Capistrano, IDE plugins that make programmers more efficient, testing frameworks like JUnit or RSpec
• Prior experience developing applications that deal with data analysis (business intelligence, statistical applications, data mining) is a strong plus
• Experience with distributed computing technologies like Hadoop and Cassandra
• Experience in or passion for the health space
• Experience with web services architecture
• Strong interest in solving challenging problems

Key Responsibilities
• Define the architecture of and build the core infrastructure for HealthTap’s product
• Participate in product discussions and help define the roadmap for the product
• Code using primarily Ruby on Rails
• Debug and fix both code and deployment issues
• Provide technical guidance and supervision to junior members of the engineering team
• Help define appropriate engineering processes for rapid and efficient delivery of the product
